Reflection & Learning

Since becoming a coach at the age of 18, I have learned about reflective practice in this type of environment from two very important mentors.

The first being my college lecturer Doreen O'Carroll who painstakingly extracted information from my head like some sort of psychological councilor until I had the ability to identify and extract this information for myself.

My second mentor was Zoe Knowles, my lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University, who is a specialist in the area of reflective practice in coaching and has published various papers on the subject.

Reflection started off for me as a written exercise, undertaken after EVERY coaching session I completed. This continued for about eight years until the number of coaching session folders became unbearable. Reflection, then became much more of a memory exercise, undertaken on the drive home from a session or last thing at night before going to sleep.

The challenge I have now is to transfer the skills I have learned from my reflective practice in coaching and try to get back to writing it down and giving it some structure.

My main fear is that I have never kept a diary in all my life, but maybe the advantage of modern technology my help to overcome that hurdle.

My other fear is as to who would actually want to read my bloody thoughts?

Welcome

This is my blog which I am going to use as my reflective diary for my PDA. Hopefully there will be many interesting thoughts that others may wish to read.
